MESSAGE FROM THE MINISTER

[ Minister Macsuzy MONDON ]

Welcome to the website of the Seychelles Local Government Department!

In the Seychelles, the Local government structure was established in 1994 and since then, there has been a series of reforms with the aim of strengthening community services, which culminated in the creation of 27 District Administrations, one in each district. In July 2018, seven Regional Councils were established to give inhabitants a voice in the management of their affairs. This is in line with the vision of the Seychelles Government, which is to promote the sustainability of the Seychellois communities and the holistic development of its people.

The purpose of this website is primarily to share information about the Local Government Department, to disseminate information to the public and ease access to information, and to encourage feedback from local communities. It is a way to reach out to our clients and stakeholders by making effective use of information and communication Technology (ICT). Local Government plays a vital role in public administration through provision of services at district level.

The vision of the Local Government Department is to cultivate empowered citizens with a high sense of community spirit and ownership, thriving on a good quality of life and to proactively engage in the affairs of their communities. Hence, we are promoting citizen-led local governance.

In the next five years, we aim to achieve three priority areas as indicated in our strategic Plan, and these are: (i) implementation of the local Government reform programme through establishment of regional councils; (ii) development of transparent, accountable and inclusive local services and programmes; and (iii) provision and enhancement of community infrastructure and facilities.

I would like to invite your collaboration in the pursuit of our vision and mission to serve the Seychelles.
