ANSE ROYALE

District Administrator

Anse Royale historical links dates back to the 18th Century. The name of “Anse Royale” is literally in French meaning “Royal Bay” when translated in English.“Anse” is from the vast coastline landscape which stretches the length of the narrow bay from beginning to the end of the district border found meticulously between Au cap and the Takamaka District.
The Anse Royale District is popular for its popular garden Le Jardin Du Roi or the Kings Garden. The garden was initially quite a modest venture comprising of nutmeg trees, pepper trees, cinnamon trees and clove tree. All were unfortunately destroyed by a fire started in May 1780 by Charles de Romainville, a French officer who mistakenly believed he saw a British ship heading towards the Island.
The District is also considered as being the second town on the island with its many services and features such as the Anse Royale Hospital, the University and hotels not forgetting its beautiful beaches.
