Opening of La Digue Baby Gym

Opening of La Digue Baby Gym

Last Friday, a new early childhood facility opened its door to the La Digue community.

The Baby Gym is a facility conceptualized by the NSC supported financially by the Government of Seychelles through the District small community projects fund. The construction of the Baby Gym was proposed by the La Digue District Administrator since 2015. It was undertaken in two phases: the main construction followed by the installation of windows, gate and fence to secure and ensure it remains safe to be used by the little children. The entire project cost 655, 630.00

This facility would certainly promote equality of opportunity allowing NSC to further decentralized the Baby Gym programme that seeks to promote culture of sports amongst children below four years old, improve gross motor skills and act as an early prevention of obesity.

The baby gym was officially opened Friday 6th July 2018 and the ceremony was graced with the presence of Hon. Noline Sophola, CEO of NSC, and representatives of the IECD, Ministry of Education, and Management of the Local Government Department, NSC staff plus Child minders and Day Care Operators.

The colorful ceremony was warmth by the encouraging speeches from the District Administrator; Mrs. Barbera Barallon, and the CEO of NSC; Ms. Giovanna Rousseau, the appreciation of the la Digue community and the sounds of children’s laughter as they enjoyed the variety of equipment in the gym.

The Baby gym programme is accessible to all children under four years old at a fee of 10 rupees per session.
