In the spirit of celebrating both the International Day of Persons with Disabilities and the festive season, the Central 2 region embraced the joyous occasion by hosting a heartwarming Christmas lunch for its residents. The event took place at the Plaisance Hall, where the community came together to spread warmth, joy, and a sense of togetherness.
Marie-Anne Florentine, the regional chair for Central 2, expressed the significance of the event, emphasising the unity it brought to the community. "Instead of having a separate lunch in each district, we merged our efforts to give the guests the chance to meet other people," she shared.
Approximately 60 individuals with disabilities from Roche Caiman, Mont Fleuri, Plaisance, and Les Mamelles were invited to partake in an afternoon of fun and festivities. The initiative aimed not only to celebrate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities but also to provide an inclusive platform for residents to connect.
Among the attendees was Ellie Tirant from Belvedère, who works at the School for the Exceptional Child. She expressed her happiness at attending the party, saying, "I am happy as I have the chance to meet my friends. We will also receive a small gift today."
Ina Bastienne from Copolia, adorned in a festive burgundy dress, exuded excitement about the upcoming Christmas and New Year celebrations. "I am ready to party," she declared. Bastienne, like many others, emphasized the importance of independence and shared her enthusiasm for everyday activities such as watching television, doing dishes, singing, and dancing.
The highlight of the event was a surprise guest appearance by Isham, who serenaded the audience with his soulful voice, adding an extra layer of joy to the festivities. Following the performance, the guests were treated to a sumptuous Christmas feast featuring a specially curated menu and refreshing drinks.
District administrators from the four regions, along with elected member for Mont Fleuri, Michel Roucou, attended the event, emphasizing the collaborative effort and community spirit that defined the day.
The accompanying photos capture the heartwarming moments and festive atmosphere of the event, showcasing the smiles, camaraderie, and shared joy among the Central 2 region residents.
